The way I came to know the Arc and the Foundation is a bit different. I was very close with my aunt who dedicated her professional life to working with individuals with disabilities. Sadly, she passed away at a young age from breast cancer. Joining the Arc team and the Foundation Board is my way to help in the field she loved so dearly and to continue her legacy.
Working as an employee benefits consultant, I have the opportunity to meet many different people. A few years ago I met Dave Rizzari. We came to know each other and through our conversations, I learned about his involvement with the Foundation Board. Dave said they were always looking for young professionals and encouraged me to meet others on the Board so I could learn how I might help this organization. Based on the personal and professional connections, all signs pointed to the fact that this agency would be the right place for me.
I was just appointed to the Board last fall and have already learned so much. I am eager to contribute more to this wonderful, respected organization that has such an amazing cause.
To me, the essence of inclusion is acceptance, welcoming people with open arms, regardless of their needs, while ensuring they have the proper support systems in place within the community. I want to help spread this message and advocate for those with disabilities.
I urge everyone to consider joining a Board. It’s a great way to connect with people and give back to the community. Find a cause you’re passionate about and get involved. You’ll be glad you did as the rewards and benefits are invaluable.
