Focus Group about Abuse & Neglect with NYS DAAN
Are you a self-advocate with a developmental disability? We want to know what
you think! What do you need to be safe? How do you make sure you have good,
healthy relationships? What training and supports are needed?

To qualify you must:
1. be a self-advocate* over 21 with a developmental disability and able to give consent.
2. be able to actively participate in a focus group for two hours independently.
Accommodations will be provided upon request at time of registration.
3. agree to keep all information about others private and confidential.
*Self-advocacy: For the purpose of this study, self-advocacy is the ability to describe your own
needs and make informed decisions about how you would like to meet those needs.
Purpose of the Focus Group: The New York State Disabilities Advocacy Association and
Network (NYS DAAN) is conducting this focus group. The information will be used to develop a
statewide plan to prevent abuse of people with developmental disabilities for the New York State
Developmental Disabilities Planning Council.
Your Rights: You have the right to change your mind and decide not to participate at any time.
The focus group will be recorded. All personal information will be kept private and confidential
and will not be kept after the study is done.
