Love Your Job! 3 Reasons I Love Working at The Arc of Monroe
Do you love what you are doing? Do you want to love what you do? Then maybe a career at The Arc of Monroe is for you. Here are 3 reasons Direct Support Specialist Rachel Rutledge loves working at The Arc of Monroe.
Doing Something that Matters
I enjoy working at The Arc because I get to do a job that actually matters – I’m making a difference in the lives of the people we support. Not only that, but I wanted to work somewhere where I could grow as a person, and this job refines me in a way that other employment opportunities haven’t.
I’ve Grown as a Person
It’s a personal dream of mine to foster and adopt down the line, so it’s important to me to grow in virtues like patience, empathy, excellence and perseverance – core values of The Arc. Working here has stretched me in that way and taught me that truly loving people has less to do with the individuals or my emotions, and more to do with the commitment that comes with love.
You Never Know what to Expect
Believe it or not, one of my favorite parts of the job is the unpredictability factor. Some days the people we support come in excited and playful, and we laugh all day. Other days they come in tired or not in the mood, and there isn’t much talking. I enjoy the process of not knowing what to expect and having to embrace them as they are day-by-day. I think the quote from Forrest Gump sums it up perfectly. “Life’s like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re gonna get.”
