Did you get a chance to take part in any of the Summer or Fall Fests happening around The Arc over the past few months? The fun kicked off with Summerfest at ArcWorks, then there was a medieval theme festival at Lambert/Community Connections. Fairport Day Services was full-on country western, while Community Arts Connection celebrated “Music Genres thru the Ages.” The fun kept coming as Ballantyne celebrated with a Halloween theme! By Chigozie Onwubalili, Clover Hills Residence Manager On August 21, 2021 the individuals supported and the entire team at Clover Hills (Clover Crew) had a Family and Friends BBQ. It was a wonderful opportunity to live the agency’s core value of camaraderie. Both the individuals and their families, together with the entire staff and their families met, socialized and established rapport. The day was colorful and bright. September is Deaf Awareness Month and International Week of the Deaf begins September 20! The first International Day of the Deaf was first celebrated by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) in 1958. The day of awareness was later extended to a full week, becoming the International Week of the Deaf (IWD). Deaf Awareness Week (IWD) is a national week of celebrating deafness. It is observed annually throughout the last full week of September (to commemorate the first World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf, which took place in September 1951). Debra Stauber started working at the Arc of Monroe in 1990 after graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Brockport.  As a Vocational Evaluator and Employment Specialist she was out in the community every day coaching people at their jobs, performing evaluations and assessments, and doing job development. Debra was recently promoted to Employment Specialist with Adult Project SEARCH. In her tenure Debra has moved between positions at the agency about which she says, “I look for opportunities to build new skill sets.” While learning new skills she still enjoys being out in the field and meeting new people. Steve volunteers with the Special Olympics locally, initially getting involved through work.  The first woman he coached participated in the adaptive games.  “She stole my heart and I’ve been hooked ever since,” says Steve.  For 18 years he has coached soccer, basketball, track, softball, and floor …
