Carol DeMoulin, the Executive Director of The Arc Foundation of Monroe, recently announced her plan to start a transition to retirement. Since starting her role as Executive Director in November of 2018, The Arc Foundation of Monroe has raised nearly $1.5 million to help fulfill The Arc’s mission and uphold its core values. 2020 has been the year of “the pivot.” When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it turned nearly every area of the Rochester community upside down. The MCC Experience Program at The Arc of Monroe was no exception. Monroe Community College (MCC) Experience is a higher education transitional service that prepares participants for eventual community employment. People learn relevant, marketable employment skills and acquire vocational internship and volunteer experience in various departments on and off MCC campus. About MCC Experience MCC Experience is a higher education transitional service that prepares people such as Tori for employment. Through classroom learning, participating in campus activities, internships and volunteering Tori is learning all the necessary skills that will help her reach her goals. I am starting my first Pathways semester this semester. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, my day starts off with meeting Molly, one of the Arc staff, at the Transit Center. We meet at Gate 11 and then take Bus 55 to the Brighton MCC campus. During the college hour there was free brunch food, there were sunglasses to bring home that said, “My future’s so bright I gotta wear shades”. On the first Friday of September, we went to an Underground Railroad reenactment that was put together by the A.M.E. Zion church.
