LifePrep@Naz Information Session I

Join us for a LifePrep@Naz Information Session and Nazareth College campus tour. To register contact Janice M. Fortuna, jfortun1@naz.edu, 585-472-9735 with your name and the number of people attending. Nazareth College will contact registrants with parking and location information about one week prior to the session. Session I Date: 10/16/19 Time: 9:30a-11:00a Location: Nazareth Collge, exact on-campus location TBD   LifePrep@Naz is a collaboration between the Arc of Monroe, Victor Central School District, and Nazareth College. Participants attend college classes, participate in vocational internships, and enjoy a vibrant campus social life. Nazareth College students provide academic support, peer mentorship, and friendship.

Paid summer internships prepare youth for employment

Programs and Services

Summer Transition Employment Program, or STEP, is a paid internship program offered through Job Path, a division of the Arc of Monroe.  The internship program is in collaboration with ACCES-VR, the Rochester City School District and Greece School District.  City and Greece schools work with ACCES-VR to identify the youth who are a good fit for this program.  STEP provides high school students with work readiness training prior to the paid internship. Students receive 15 hours of work readiness training April through June.  The summer internship lasts six weeks and each intern is supported by Job Path Employment Specialists who …

Mike George was born with a quite-treatable heart condition, and some routine surgery when he was nine months old was botched, impairing oxygen flow to his brain, and reducing his cognitive function.   It would be easy to say Mike has had a rotten life.  Taken from his mother’s arms within hours of birth and moved to another hospital; surgery the second day of his life; five more heart surgeries; drilling into his skull to alleviate a subdural hematoma; gallbladder surgery.  Cognitive impairment when he had awesome genes and awesome potential.   But Mike’s “rotten” life is the only thing …
