Will you raise your hand to help?
Have you ever been to an event and you walked away with a different perspective? Have you ever heard a story of a person who overcame personal challenges and made you appreciate how things may come simpler to you? Have you ever been so drawn to a cause that you wanted to raise your hand to help?
I can say personally that ALL of this is true for me. Last year I was working at a local signage company, Image360 Rochester, where I had the great opportunity to help with the sign needs for The Arc of Monroe as they embraced a new logo and agency core values. As a way to give back to The Arc and support their mission, Image360 was a sponsor of A Toast to The Arc event and I attended the evening’s festivities.
During the event I got to know the more personal side of The Arc and the people who benefit from their many programs and services. There was a highlight video about Brett who learned valuable life skills to become independent and ultimately live on his own… and I heard from Lisa Powers the incoming Foundation board chair about the impact that events like A Toast to The Arc make on the lives of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. I left that evening wanting to do more for The Arc of Monroe. And I knew I could utilize my prior experience in non-profit management, events and fundraising to help.
Fast forward to 2019 where I’m doing so much more than attending events with The Arc Foundation of Monroe, I’m helping to run them as part of the team. I joined The Arc Foundation this year as Director of Development and I’m so fulfilled spending my time each day raising money and resources to make an impact on people’s lives. Through my time at The Arc I’ve had the privilege to work with so many hard-working and determined people and I’ve been inspired by so many stories of personal triumph.
Most recently I met Dave Becker and heard his story, as he was our Guest of Honor at this year’s Toast to The Arc.
So, do you want to raise your hand to help? Do you want to take more action to make an impact on the lives of people we support at The Arc of Monroe? An easy first step could be to offer to volunteer or join a committee. With The Arc Foundation we host three main fundraising events throughout the year (Sporting Clays in May, Golf tournament in July and A Toast to The Arc in September) and each has a committee helps to open doors to sponsors or attendees, and makes sure the event is the best it can be. Whatever your talent or volunteer availability, it would be welcomed at The Arc Foundation of Monroe.
