SELF at The Strong
SELF at The Strong is an employment readiness service located at The Strong National Museum of Play. It is specifically designed for young people with autism to prepare them for eventual employment in our community.
Participants will have opportunities to engage in work internships and classroom learning, while being fully immersed in the business culture. This program will provide young people with opportunities to try unique internships to gain transferrable work skills.

- Potential internship opportunities Exhibits Cleaning, Guest Services Host, Food Service, Train, Carousel, Library Support, Craft Inventory, Public Programs, Conservation Support, Coffee Cart, Slide Scanning, Manipulatives Cleaning, etc.
- 1 Coordinator/2 Employment Specialists
- Up to 8 interns at a time
- 3 internship rotations in a year
- Classroom instruction focusing on: professionalism, job development, social skills, problem solving, work ethic, communication, teamwork, travel training, etc.
Eligibility
- Eligible for Community Pre-Voc
- Must be OPWDD waiver enrolled
- Have a desire to work competitively
- Self-manage independently and self-medicate
- No behavior support plan
