Top 10 Benefits of Working at the Arc of Monroe

When I came to work for the Arc of Monroe I had no idea I was signing up for more than a job.  I find that there is so much more offered than just a paycheck.  Below are my own personal Top 10 benefits of working here.

Top 10 Benefits:

10.  People who genuinely care and want to help each other

Everyone who works at the Arc is here for a similar reason; we want to help people.  We are a caring, empathetic, compassionate group of people who want to make our Rochester community a better place.  I am grateful to be among such passionate co-workers.

9.  On-site personal trainer

The Arc really wants us all to be healthy and active!  Seriously, keep reading and you’ll see.  I definitely need to take advantage because I often partake of the delicious cookies from the Arc Deli that so often show up in our kitchen.

8.  Staff happy hours

Having time to socialize and really get to your wo-workers is so beneficial to your internal relationships and team building.  Our Fun Committee plans all sorts of staff appreciation events.  Yes, we have a Fun Committee.

7.  Fitness opportunities

There is always a group of colleagues to exercise with.  A new meditation class is starting soon, which is unique and something I want to check out.   We also have walking groups and Zumba, among others.

6.  Recognition of a job well done

Staff is nominating peers across the agency for exhibiting our core values.  This is such a thoughtful way to acknowledge the hard work everyone is putting in.  Each week nominees are published via email and I enjoy reading about how everyone is living out our values.  For me it’s a window to what people across the agency are doing on a daily basis.

5.  Massage chair

This is a treat at our 2060 Brighton-Henrietta Townline office location.  It’s especially relieving after a session with our trainer.

4.  Having a say in the direction of the agency

We are provided avenues to participate and drive internal decisions, one example being the Employee Engagement Committee.  Members are able to give feedback and leadership listens.  Recently a discussion about values resulted in a change based on committee feedback.  This is something every employer may not provide, so I feel lucky to have a voice here.

3.  Arc Deli and it’s crispy tater tots

Yum.  If you haven’t been to Arc Deli on Lyell you’ve got to try it!  Their food is amazing and I enjoy chatting with the people we support who work there.  I am really impressed by all of them for helping run a restauant, along with a catering business.

2.  28 days of paid vacation time after just one year

We are all encouraged to take time off and relax.  Our jobs are hard and we all need this generous down time.  We all enjoy vacation time, right?  I’m planning to go camping in the Thousand Islands this year.

1.  The people we support

The genuine happiness and excitement I see from the people we support is infectious.  The hellos, handshakes and smiles I get from everyone fill me with joy.  I am reminded why I come to work every day.
