Our new innovative 5-Week program for Direct Support Professionals kicks-off June 7th!
At The Arc of Monroe, Direct Support Professionals – DSPs – help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in the community and enhance their independence through development of life skills, while ensuring safety and wellness.
Thousands of people with developmental disabilities rely on DSPs every day for help with life’s essential activities. These include getting out of bed, getting dressed, going to the bathroom, finding a job, and getting to work.
This unique course will help train you to become a DSP and begin a career you can be passionate about.
Do I Need Experience?
No. There is no experience necessary in supporting people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to join this program. Candidates that successfully complete the program will become full-time DSPs at The Arc of Monroe.
Will I Get Paid for Training?
Yes. Each DSP-In-Training will be paid $17 per hour. Once hired, rate may go up to $19 per hour. In return, participants are required to make a one-year commitment to the role within The Arc of Monroe. Sign-on bonus up to $1,500 offered.
Can I Work for The Arc of Monroe?
Once enrolled, a student will be hired as a “DSP in Training” and will be an official employee of The Arc of Monroe. The program runs five days a week over the course of four weeks. Monday through Thursday, participants have classroom instruction at the Bryant & Stratton College Henrietta campus. On Fridays, students shadow The Arc of Monroe team members across its 30 residential homes and numerous day programs. Each cohort will be 15-20 students.

The Details
- Hired by The Arc of Monroe as a DSP in Training.
- 5-week free training program.
- Training is provided by Bryant and Stratton College.
- Monday through Thursday: classroom instruction.
- Friday: Students shadow The Arc of Monroe team members at residential sites and day program locations.
- Upon successful completion of the program, DSP-In-Training will move into DSP roles in our residential homes and Fairport Day Services.
- No intellectual/developmental disability experience required.
- Must be caring, compassionate and empathetic.
- Valid New York state driver’s license needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent needed.
