Our Goal: to raise funds to build two new seven-bedroom, ranch style homes that are fully accessible.
Your generosity will help to enrich the lives of people we support through The Arc of Monroe by taking part in our Aging with Grace, Aging In Place campaign.
Your contribution will help us reach our goal of building two new seven-bedroom, ranch style homes that are fully accessible.
These new homes will create space for people we support to live fully throughout the trajectory of their lives without needing to be displaced due to mobility challenges or other concerns that arise as a result of aging. Thank you.
Funds raised for Aging with Grace, Aging In Place
To complete this initiative will require more than $1.5 million. We have already raised a significant amount of the Foundation's pledge of $1.3 million thanks to generous sponsors, donors, and grants.
If you would like to contribute to this exciting initiative, or you would like to talk about how you can become more involved, please let us know! Thank you for giving and for recognizing the importance of creating space for people we support to live fully throughout the trajectory of their lives without needing to be displaced due to mobility challenges or other concerns that arise as a result of aging.
Helping People Feel at Home
Living in a safe, comfortable home is fundamental to the well-being of all people. That is especially true for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, for whom it is essential to provide the right environment to encourage independence.
Finding existing homes to accommodate the needs of those we support is difficult. Fully accessible homes are few and far between, and updating houses to be accessible is expensive and never easy. That is why the Aging with Grace, Aging In Place initiative is so important. We will be building two new seven-bedroom, ranch style homes that are fully accessible. These new homes will create space for people we support to live fully throughout the trajectory of their lives without needing to be displaced due to mobility challenges or other concerns that arise as a result of aging.
Promoting Independence & Quality of Life
The success of the 2019 Home Makeover Challenge is a perfect illustration of what happens when a need becomes an idea and the idea is matched with philanthropy.
While the Home Makeover Challenge addressed many needs, the one need it could not address was the ability to have the people we support age in place.
With more than half of our 29 homes being two story, we realize that, to accommodate our ever aging population, we now must pursue another option. We want the people we support to be able to comfortably age in place. Who wants to have to leave their home just because they can no longer navigate stairs?
The future lies in building our own homes.
About The Arc and The Arc Foundation of Monroe
As one of the largest chapters in New York State, we support more than 1,400 adults within Monroe County through the operation of 29 residential homes; health services, including psychiatry, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and speech therapy; day habilitation; guardianship and workforce development.
The Arc Foundation of Monroe was formed in 1992 to provide individualized support and enhanced services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families — for increased independence, quality of life and the opportunity to be fully included in the community.
